The Indian Budget saatement has been pre- wanted in the House of Commons. The prospect of 1887-88 is worse by $610,000 sterling than who the stimates were framed in Indis, owing to the greatly increased charges on socount ef the operations in Upper Barmah and the small inouet realized from lan, the revenues of which yielded only Lalf the amount estimated. It is hoped, however, that the growth of the Indian avenues would cover the estimated defsit. Mr. Gorst in his speech strongly eulogized the jus- tice, equity and beneficaue of the Indian Go-ON vernment in their dealings towards the people of
Izdia.
Mr. Bradlangh followed with some reflections on the grievances of the natives of India, especi ally in the matter of promotions in the Civil Service
Mr. Gors, replying, said that Government mast await the report of the Public Sorrico Commission before entering upon any reforms
admitting more natives to the Civil Sarvien.
