The medal, a silver onn, in about the size of a Mexican dollar, in form, however, some what oblong. Its weight, likewise, is much gresier, being about three or four times that of a dollar. On its obverse it bears characters, which, translated, mean: "Modal of Merit." On its revered it has characters, which mean: "Pra: Bented by Kung Tastai of the Son Sung and Tai Ciroits Green silk tassels, to which ure at tached two large pearls, hang from the lower part of the medal, which is suspended by green silk cords. One of the balloons made of paper and about 10 fees in diameter was inflated with by- drogen gas and as it rose in the air, it was freed. Much astonishment was evinced by the natives.
