The Commissioners of Police
of the Metropolis have to acknowledge the receipt of your Letter of the 4th Instant acquainting them with the rates of Salary sanctioned by Her Majesty's Government, for the appointment of a Superintendent and 2 Inspectors of Police at Hong Kong, and requesting the Commissioners to report to Lord Stanley the names of the Officers whom they may select for the appointment - The Commissioners have accordingly to submit their recommendation of Inspector Charles May for the appointment of Superintendent, and of Police Sergeants
