Sir,
With reference to your letter dated 26th Inst., enclosing copy of one from the Governor of Hong Kong reporting the resignation of Dr. Anderson, Colonial Hospital Surgeon, and the appointment of Dr. J. Dell as his successor, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to request you will show to Lord Stanley that it appeared from Governor Davis's dispatch of 15th same Inst. that, in conformity with instructions from his Lordship, the appointment of Colonial Surgeon of Hong Kong, for which a Salary of £800 per annum had been assigned by Sir H. Pottinger, had been abolished, but that the Governor proposed to retain Mr. Anderson in the Colonial Service, under the designation of Hospital Surgeon, in which capacity he now is, and Dr. Dill, with a Salary of £600 per annum.
