LONDON, 13th March. In the House of Commons last ovozing, the Under Secretary of State for Tadia, in reply to yuestion, said that Lord Dufferin has been in structed to inform the Indian Associations of Bengal, Madras and Bombay, which have been requesting for the appointment of a Royal Cam- son instead of a Parliamentary Committee for enquiring into the working of the Gocarn went of India Act of 1858, that Her Majesty's Gorerament, in conformity with precedent had decided that a Parliamentary Committen woubl be mest effective; and added that the Govern- ent had no intention of instituting an inde pendant, anquiry on the same subject in India. Thereupon, SU Roper Lethbridge gave notice ON of an amendment, declaring that in the opinion of the House, no inquiry woull be satisfactory without holding an independent local investigaOr tion of the working of the present Indian ad- ministration.
In the House of Commons Mr. Donald H. Huofselain, Momber for Argyll, put the question the Government whether they would afford facilities and bear the gost, of natives coming from India to England, to give evidence before the Committee of Inquiry into the working of the Government of India.
The Under Secretary of State for India in reply said that the question was one for con sideration of the Committee, who would probably not be indisposed to afford facilities.
