“my Ordnance duties, and the uncertainty of my health continuing here good after two attacks of fever, will prevent me accepting any Colonial appointment, and That I consider, should an office of Royal Engineers be required to preside over the Civil Engineer Establishment, of their New Colony, that it would be more advantageous both for the Colonial and Ordnance interest that an officer of the Corps should be selecting, rather than to call upon the Commanding Royal Engineer to provide for it.
