Human Hewart Oliver, master of the brig Harlequin, being called is put on his former oath and questioned.

I have no recollection of ever demonstrating quite Mr. Stocking about beating the seamen, nor had I at any time complaint from the seamen having ill used them.

I beg to produce the Registry Certificate of the brig Harlequin. It is examined and shews that Alexander Chune is the sole owner and that Duncan Oliver is its master. The date is 15 October, and signed by Macpherson, as Deputy Superintendent.

Captain Oliver here explains, that the Harlequin was bought by Messrs Jardine Matheson & Co on 7 October 1843, at Macao, where the bill of sale now is.

Taylor, Van Partridge, mate of the Harlequin, called into Court and questioned on his former oath,
