received from the Prisoner. Deceased was healthy and stout before. Witness heard, that he had been treated by the Doctor for any

other sickness or reason except the wound. Witness has seen Mr Hopkins strike Prisoner once or twice. Can speak positively to once

About 8 days before he was stabbed. Witness observed to Mr Hopkins, that the Prisoner might do him some harm. He made this remark because Prisoner walked

away (after being struck) about 8 paces, and stood and laughed maliciously. Witness

saw the Prisoner

not actually laugh or smile but looked unconcerned.- Witness had some conversation with Mr. Hopkins before the

wound. Mr. Hopkins told Witness he thought the Prisoner had done for him.

He meant that he would not recover. Witness saw Mr Hopkins' dead body examined - understood he had died from the wound. Witness knows nothing about the Prisoner being reduced from a Lascar to a Cunnie.

The Prisoner declines to ask

this Witness any questions, and he is

allowed to withdraw.

3rd Witness. Francis Antonio is called into

Court and Sworn. States. I am a native of Manilla - I was on board the Harlequin in October last. Remembers Mr Hopkins being stabbed by the Prisoner about 6 o'clock in the morning. Describes that Mr. Hopkins came

from below apparently to look for the Prisoner
