laughing with the Crew: The blow to the Prisoner by Mr. Hopkins gever " about three weeks few... was a ago days before, the Prisoner was reduced. The Prisoner declines to att any questions of this "Witness, who it allowed to withdraw.

Lewis Christian Smith called by the Prosecution, entered the Court and sworn. States-Sam Supercargo of the Brig Harlequin, and was so on board of that vessel in Nammo Roads in October last. Mr. the 2nd mate was stabbed. I Hopkins was then below. I heard a noise on deck and ran up. I saw Mr Hopkins 2" the mate struggling with the Prisoner forward. I hove to come to assist the crew to assist in securing the Prisoner. The Prisoner had a knife in his hand thus (here witness describes what is usually called back-handed) and was endeavouring to stab W. Hopkins. I called to the Seaman to come to our assistance. The Prisoner was very strong. He got the knife out of the Prisoner's hand. The Prisoner was greatly enraged. When disarmed he was bound to the side of the Ship. He looked back when witness was examining the wound to Hopkins, and laughed. Witness thinks he would have made another attack on Mr. Hopkins had he not been bound. He was in a great passion. Witness at this time only observed the wound. Mr. Hopkins was assisted below by me. He never came out on deck himself after this. He died a week after. Witness has no doubt that his death was caused by the wound he received.
