and for the arrangement and settlement, of all and all manner of differences, Contentions, suits and variances

or shall happen to arise –

that may between them or

and authority, as far as in them

And Whereas by the above first recited Act it is enacted that it

shall be lawful for Her Majesty by any Commission of Commissions under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom, or by any

Instructions under Her

Majesty's Signet and Sign Manual, accompanying and referred to

any such Commission

to settle all

differences,

Contentions, suits and variances

that say or shall happen to arise, between British Subjects; and the Subjects of The Emperor of China, and between British Subjects and the Subjects of any Foreign Power, and which brought before them for settlement

may

And

(so long

as

such Commissions, to authorize the Superintendent of the Trade

of Her Majesty's Subjects in China, as such Superintendent shall be also Governor of the Island of Hong Kong) to enact with the advice of the Legislative Council of the said Island of Hong Kong, all such Laws and

Ordinances
