are aware that a
imposed upon Sir Henry Pottinger. -
Your Lordships. Salary of £6000. a
1 year 2
has been
assigned to her davir, and that such Salary will be borne upon the Estimate
of the Colonial Office..
I understand from Lord Stanley,
that it is inconsistent with the
usual
practice of the Colonial Office to grant Outfits to Governors; - but as the Salary assigned to Mr Davis has been
fixed at the sum
of £6000. a year in consideration of the several
Offices which
are united in his
person, I conceive that at least
on a portion of that salary, he
is entitled to receive such
allowance
by way of outfit as he would have received
if such portion had been borne on the Estimate of the Foreign Office..
The sum
of
£3000. a
year
was
fixed in 1856. as the Salary to be enjoyed by the Chief Superintendent, and I propose that on that Sum, an allowance by way of outfit
should be made to Mr Davis,
One third
on the same principle which diplomatic and consular outfits are granted; namely third of the yearly salary I have accordingly to request that Your Lordships will have the goodness to give directions that the sum £1000. be
paid
to her dair's or
