Victoria, Honghong,
6th December, 1844.
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of a private note from your Excellency respecting the punishment of pirates;
as I am unable to transmit an unofficial document to my Government on a subject of this importance. I have to request that I may be furnished with an official letter as to the execution of the pirates in question.
The long interval, which has elapsed without any punishment being inflicted on pirates attacking the English and their vessels, is probably the cause that piracies are greatly increased of late,
His Excellency
Keying.
