be that, of the aggregate amount of Dollars 196,882,123, reported in Sir J. Pottinger's letter of 14 July 1944 to have
been expended from June
1941 to January
1944;
$66,140,141 new for
Military & Naval Services,
$6,865.63 for expenses
connected with the
Department of the Superintendent of Trade,
and $124,676.19 for the
service of
the Civil Government
I am informed that the
mentioned amount
must be chargeable to the general expenses of the Expedition to China, and that such portion of the
other Expenditure
as may have been incurred
prior to 1st Sept 1943
should be charged
to those Expenses, the residue being chargeable to the respective Votes for the Consulate Establishments,
and for the Civil Government
Hong Kong; to which last mentioned Vote the expenditure specified in Enclosure No. 2 of the Dept
of 14 Novr to have been
charged.
Being up to 30
Sept 1944 an
amounting, exclusively of the Canton Consular Establishment, to $26,556.47, together with the further Expenditure for the Works in Progress up to that date with which should be charged.
