The sum

of dollars: 3100 was expended on account of the Naval Department, being for the construction of temporary storehouses, and jelly for the use of Her Majesty's squadron.

The expenditure pertaining to the Civil Departments amounted to dollars 188,741.87. It is necessary perhaps to distinguish here between works properly pertaining to the Colony, and such as should be charged to the Superintendency, the latter having been incurred by the Chief Superintendent previous to appointment as Colonial Governor.

In the enclosed account such items are marked (§8) and being deducted will be found to divide the above-mentioned sums into these proportions.

Mr Gordon's estimate of the charges on account of Public Works and buildings likely to be required within the Colony, considerably exceeded the real expenditure, to be incurred, exclusively of the residences for Civil Officers of Government, which will not be wanted. The particulars of these can only be furnished to Your Lordship in detail, as the plans and specifications for each shall be forwarded home in their turns.
