The Same Clause has another promise occasioning the Court
uneasiness
in
the
Case
of Offenders to furnish them according to the Laws of Hong Kong. There is
very
serious
objection to the adoption
in terms thus
general
of the penal laws of any Foreign Country, (and especially of a Country the laws, Institutions, and Government of which
derive their character
from the principles
of Christianity and are
recognised throughout the Christian world.
The Seventh Clause
gives to the Chief Justice the patronage of all the subordinate Officers of the Court. But it leaves the word "subordinate"...
