An Ordinance to establish
Supreme Court of Justice
at Hongkong.
10142.
An Ordinance for establishing is the Registry of the Inhabitant's
of the Island of Hongkong and it's Dependencies-
The first of these being
a most important Instrument,
inasmuch
as
it
Conveys
to
this Colony the operation of English Law, with such
modifications and limitations
as were
prescribed by Your Lordship, with the advice of the Law officers of the Crown, or such others as arose out of the peculiar exigencies of this Colony, it has been
drawn
up
with much care
and ability by Mr Chief Justice
Hulme, and undergone
thorough revision in Council with the aid of
the opinion
of the Attorney General.
In execution
of
the
provisions of this Ordinance, the Supreme Court opened it's sittings
on the 1st Instant.
The necessity for the second
of the above-mentioned Ordinances arose out
of
the mixed and
heterogeneous character of population of
this Colony,
