We beg to inform you for information of His Excellency the Governor in Council, that in conformity with the instructions contained in His Excellency's Memorandum of the 23rd March last, we called a Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Choong Wong, or Upper Bazaar, and W. Gutzlaff explained to them fully the
reasons why His Excellency could not comply with their petition, and also His Excellency's wish to put them to as little inconvenience as possible in the removal which it was absolutely necessary should take place. Mr. Gutzlaff likewise gave them a written answer
