Government Notification.
His Excellency the Governor in Council, understanding that Ordinance No. 5, requiring all persons to affix a proper lamp or lantern to their houses, and keep it alight during the night, has not been complied with generally and being convinced that one of the most effectual means both of preventing and detecting crime consists in having the streets well lighted, calls upon the inhabitants of Victoria to conform strictly to its provisions in future, and directs the Constables and others to report all offenders to the Police Magistrate, in order that they may be punished for their neglect.
