I beg leave to inform you that within the hour I sent my Servant to the Post Office with the enclosed note, in consequence of not having received all the letters I expected the clerk behind to look at the direction of the letter and sent my messenger away. You cannot now send my correspondent's letters from England.

The bearer took the note and could not identify the block as it was taken by himself. I complain not of the insolence of the preceding, but if letters are returned unopened I do not know how our business wants are to be met.

(Signed) W.A. Bruce

Colonial Secretary.
