I am directed by His Excellency to call your attention to the transmission of letters from this Colony to the United Kingdom and other places beyond sea, and Madras and Calcutta. This subject had consideration on a former occasion by Sir H. Pottinger, and it is becoming every day more important, as during this season of the year, the prevalence of the Southwest monsoon renders the communication via these Ports with Europe much more expeditious than that via Bombay.
You will therefore report, at your earliest convenience what steps you have taken.

Dep[uty] Post Master.
