Government House, Hongkong, 27 June, 1844.

I am directed by His Excellency the Governor in Council, with reference to your letter of the 30th of May last, to convey to you, as a temporary measure and pending a reference on the subject to the Post Master General in England, authority to make up mails for transmission via Madras and Calcutta to Europe.

You are instructed to receive the requisite Indian Postage to ensure their being expedited by Dawk to Bombay, upon letters when posted, and to pay the amount so collected, on the day following the despatch of every mail.
