In reporting my progress this far toward China, & take occasion to Communicate to your Lordship a point on which I feel Considerable Concern, in relation to a principal member of the New Colonial Establishment
Upon reaching Bombay on the 8th instant, I proceeded immediately with Captain Maitland of H.M. Steamer to examine the Accommodations which that vessel was likely to afford to myself and the rather numerous suite of Colonial Officers who have Accompanied me thus far from England – I was very soon led to concur with Captain Maitland's opinions which that officer had at once Expressed on learning the number of the party, and which my own experience of war had led me to anticipate.
There would have been sufficient space for all, had not the family of The Right Hon'ble Lord Stanley M.P
