With reference to your despatch of 31 July last I have the earliest opportunity of apprising that the Arceen has been pleased to appoint M. J. F. Davis to be Chief Superintendent of Trade in China.
If Shelios Laulum Governor of Hongthong with East mail 'n and Chief Superintendent Shuck zu might MM. Davis Commission also to notify this as having been made out his appointment has not appeared in the Gazette - but as you must be aware that you well be anxious to be assured of the probability of your being early relieved, I have thought it right thus to anticipate
