forming one of the Enclosures to any other Despatch of this date, I consider
unnecessary to send a Duplicate of it. It may be as well to state
: again particularly remark, that up to the 10th of September 1843, all contracts and other Military Expenses - save the Pay and allowances of the Troops - were
paid from the Colonial Treasury - the Commissariat Chest, having only commenced its operations on that day.
in This circumstance was reported in my Despatchesto Lord Aberdeen of the 24th and 25th of August, 1843 (Not 106 and 109) to which His Lordship replied on the 26th
on the 26th of December, 1843. It will probably be fully known to Your Lordship, but, as it added vastly to the almost individual labor
of Mr. Hewett, not to say nothing of the serious responsibility it entailed on that gentleman as well as myself, I hope Your Lordship will approve of my here specially noticing it.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Most Obedient, Humble Servant
A Pitar sam
