attendant upon the settlement and payment of the Debts of the Hong Merchants, the Receipt of the Indemnity money from the Chinese Government : the provision of funds for the current expenses of the Public Service in China, added to the labour of carrying on the current duties of a New felony - Superintendency, and the Mission, I trust, that your Lordship will see that it required the unceasing exertions of myself, and that of Mr. Stewart will be satisfied that the utmost, that circumstances would admit of;
has been done to record the expenses of the Colonial Government... I shall address Your Lordship separately respecting the accounts subsequent to the exchange of Ratifications, and of which I shall take home a complete copy to 8th May 1844, supported by Warrants and all other necessary documents.
