Memorandum
On looking more narrowly into the Notifications published by the Post masters General at Calcutta and Bombay, I find they have no reference to anything else than British Postage --
I therefore think it advisable to draw W. Caulfeild's special attention to the Government Notification published in the Extra Hongkong Gazette of the 8th of April 1843, agreeable to which he must be guided in levying Indian Postage on all Letters and newspapers that may be put into the Post Office to go by the "Red Rover" to Calcutta.
By the Regulations therein laid down a double letter (not exceeding half an ounce in weight 2½ drachms being equal to half an ounce)...
