I have received from the Colonial Office, in His Lordship's Despatch N° 18, of the 12th of November last, copy of a letter which had been addressed, by Your Lordship's directions to the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, under date the 6th of that month, on the subject of the right of the Portuguese Authorities at Macao to claim our assistance or interposition in the event of their being threatened or attacked by the Government of China.

The matter of that letter has been, of course, made known to...
