Memorandum showing the nature of such Buildings.
We have not the most remote intention of imputing to the Committee but the most fair and impartial feeling, and had the proceedings regarding Buildings in the Colony commenced with the Ratification of the Treaty of Nankin, we should not have had a word to say on the subject; but we cannot too strongly urge upon the Government at home, through His Excellency the Governor, our claims, as Holders of Land under Grants and Sales which were believed to be valid and on the faith of which we have expended so large an amount of time and money, to as moderate conditions and tenure of property as obtain in other British Colonies, a principle which, under the circumstances, we feel the greatest confidence will be conceded.
