Sketch of Cantonment

if this site could be granted, the

General would consider it a

great boon to the soldiers under his

Command, having

more

especially in

view the great mortality with which they have been hitherto afflicted, and which will be best seen in the enclosed part of reports of late Medical Committees Committee 15 July, 1829

assembled to investigate and report upon the causes and results of the prevailing sickness.

Should His Excellency be

disposed to meet the Major General's

present request, it would involve

no doubt the necessity of turning

the

road

and carrying it through the Hill, in order to gain sufficient space for the proposed Hospital, but that expense would be willingly undertaken on the Major

General's part at the charge of the Ordnance.

The Major General would not have ventured to press this subject upon His Excellency's consideration, if he had not been led to believe, that the above site is still undisposed of, and not liable to interfere with any of the public Establishments of the Government
