Mr. Stanton; and as the completion of a permanent Church may occupy at least a year from the time instructions for its being built are received here, I deemed it necessary to authorise temporary public expense. The repair of the house being done at the expense of being done, I have now the honour to forward copies of the letters that have passed on this subject. The amount will be included in the Estimate which is in preparation to be sent to England by this opportunity; and I beg to express my hope that, under this explanation, Her Majesty's Government will approve and sanction the step I have taken, to provide for the immediate religious wants of the Colony in connection with the Church of England.
