information which at

that time I had received

on this subject. The conclusion

to which I came, has that

the Marine lots which

had been disposed of by

Captain Elliot and Mr. Johnston

should be confirmed for

75 years at the rates

of Annual payment originally

fixed.

but that

the Town and Suburban

lots demanded further

Enquiry

on the Spot, and

must be dealt with

Accordingly by

The Local

Government.

By Sir H. Pottinger's Despatch

of the 9th of January it

appears that the necessity

for further enquiring

had been foreseen by him, and

that before

the receipt of

My Despatch, he had appointed

proper Officers to investigate

the subject; to whom he gave

Instructions which appear

to have been just and proper.

This Board came

to the conclusion, 1st that the Marine lots already

granted should

be confirmed at their original prices for periods of 75 years (this anticipating my

decision

on the same subject)
