To Pottinger, attention to that particular Lordship's minute, undersigned has already received instructions to make large retrenchments in the public Expenditure which experience may show to be not prejudicial to the public service, and Stanley has no doubt that if he should consider their Lordships' suggestion expedient or practicable he will carry it into effect.

Relative to taking action for the Earl of Aberdeen's information that my Lords do approve of the steps which have been taken by Sir H. Pottinger to Lord Stanley, 20th Dec. 1843. § 7. H. Pottinger to Coll. Annesley, Governor of Singapore, 22nd August 1843.

To the Earl of Aberdeen, 25th Aug. 1843, he 189/ Q. Commissary General Coffin, 22 Aug. 1843.

As described in the correspondence noted in the margin.

Sir H. Pottinger states as follows in his letter dated 24th August: "such instructions as were written to the Superintendents of this Colony up to the day of the Notification of the Transfer, are to be changed to the Military purposes of the Expedition".

Their Lordships gave intimations by letter dated 3rd March.
