M. Irevelyan having by his Letter of the 27. "W" signified that he was directed by Your Lordships to acquaint us in reference to our secretary's Letter of the 16" preceding, directing the delivery of Six cases of Chinese Books to Lord Stanmore, that it had been intimated to Your Lordships that only five of the cases have been recorded at the Colonial Office, and that he was to desire we would cause inquiry to be made in regard to the Missing Case, and report the result thereof to Your Lordships.

We beg to state that five cases only having been received by the Officers at this post from My mouth, we directed inquiry to be made of the Officers at that Post relative to the Missing Case, and they have reported that Five packages only, containing Books, were
