I shall communicate the purport of this letter to Captain Sir Thomas Herbert, K.C.B., and Major-General Burrell, C.B.; to the former Officer in particular, I feel
deeply
indebted
for
the warm interest
deeply indebted he has evinced in every thing connected with this Settlement, as well as for the kind assistance and suggestions which I have received from him, in
every
branch
of my Proceedings and duties, since
I came down here in February last; and it is matter of sincere congratulation
to me
that
You
will have him, at least, to consult with and assist you, in any measures which the course of events may render necessary to be taken without previous reference to me.
