Ordinances and Regulations
as may from time to time
be required for the peace, order, and good governing
of our said subjects being within the dominion of the Emperor of China, or being within
not
more than a distance of hundred miles from the coast of
China; and
We did by the said Letters Patent, in further
exercise of the powers
impose upon
and authorities aforesaid the exercise of the before-mentioned
legislative authority all such conditions and
limitations as We
had seen
fit to prescribe
in
the Instructions under our Signet and Sign Manual
hereby
annexed to the said Commission:
accompanying these Instructions We do require
and enjoin
the said Sir
Henry Pottinger
and
that in the
execution of the powers and authorities aforesaid You (until further order be made) do observe and be
guided by
the Instructions
bearing
date the 5th day of April 1843 accompanying
the said Commission under our Signet and Sign Manual.
And We do further declare
that
the Governor of
the said Island. Provided further
that
in the execution of the aforementioned legislative
powers and authorities
as aforesaid
you
do observe and be
guided by
the said Instructions of
the 5th day of April 1843, applicable
to
the same and to the case
of
the said Powers and
Authorities, and so far as the same are
compatible and consistent with the provisions of the said recited Act of Parliament.
Given at Our Court at Windsor Castle the 26th day of August 1843, in the Seventh
Year of Our Reign.
