April 27. 1843.

I am directed by Sir Henry Pottinger to acknowledge the receipt of your letters dated the 17th and 20th Instant, the latter of which you propose certain alterations in the establishment allotted for Survey of the southern side of the island by my letter of the 18th Instant.

An application will be made to Major General Lord Saltoun for Ensign Jesse Lloyd to be allowed to place himself under your orders as an Assistant in the Survey.

It appears from your letter, in reply, to be very desirable to secure the services of Private Mahon, you are at liberty to employ him in addition to the two Europeans under Captain Clement Edwards.
