Government House Hongkong April 23. 1845.

In continuation of the subject of my letter No.146 of the 6th Instant, I have the honour to state to Your Lordship that I consider it much desirable to have the Survey of this Colony completed with as little delay as possible, and as I have understood that Captain De Havilland 55th Regiment and Lieut Paying 81. Royal 18th Foot are both well qualified to take a part in such duty, and have latterly been so employed at Chusan it has occurred to me that perhaps both or one of those officers could under Your Lordship's sanction be rendered available for the survey of the Colony on a temporary footing (as to any appointments they may have fully
