The Europeans will be allowed twenty-five Rupees per month Civil Pay and the Chinese overseers thirty Rupees per month.
The whole of these Allowances will be drawn monthly by a Receipt in Quadruplicate to be signed by you, and accompanied by an acquittance roll of the different persons which is required as a Voucher for the charge to be brought to account in the disbursements of the fort of this Island.
All the surveying instruments now disposable will be placed at your command and should others be required they will be applied for to the Supreme Government of India on your furnishing a list of them. A House will be allowed for the use of the Surveyor, the rent of which is, in consideration of the great demand for Houses fixed at $60 per month, and the Hire will be paid on the receipts of the owner countersigned by you, being presented at this office.
