Sir,

Directed by Sir Henry Pottinger to inform you that he has, with the sanction of Major General d'Aguilar, commanding H. M's Land Forces in China, been pleased to appoint you to survey the northern face of the Island of Hong Kong from the Point called "West Point" to the Eastern boundary belonging to M. Burn near the entrance of the Lymoon Passage.

For this duty you will receive from the Civil department a personal salary of one hundred and fifty Rupees (150) per month, and an allowance for office Establishment of one hundred Rupees (100) per mensem.

You will be allowed to select one Officer as your assistant on a salary of one hundred and Fifty Rupees (150).
