himself of Singapore accepted a Bill at three months date, but left that Colony before the Bill arrived at maturity. The Bill was sent to the Agent at Hongkong of the Firm to whom the Bill was payable and the matter was brought before the Chief Magistrate at Hong Kong. M: Davidson pleaded that he had arranged with one of the partners of the Firms to be allowed to discharge it at his own convenience, and offered to produce written evidence to this effect in Court.
M. Gillespie addressed a letter to H.E. Pottinger saying he was ready to pay his debt; that he could only do so by selling his property in Tong Kong, and that as such sale had been prohibited, his hopes of settling with his creditors were no longer entertained. No reply was written in answer to this communication.
This case is sufficiently explained in the letter. W: Pedder, the Marine Magistrate of Hong Kong, thought fit, instead of confining himself to the Business before him, to go out of his way to return thanks to Captain Richards and Lieut. Fitzjames of H.M.S. "Cornwallis" for having brought the "merits of the case to the notice of the Civil Authorities". The former officer had, when applied to from the "Aden", sent a Boat from the "Cornwallis" to suppress the disturbance on board the "Aden", and Lieut. Fitzjames had been ordered on this duty.
2.5. Does not require any explanation beyond what is shown on the face of it.
2.6. Explains itself.
