the town; and from the circumstance of native boats being constantly plundered between Canton and Macao, and this, I have reason to believe that piracy has greatly increased in the Canton River and among the neighbouring Islands, from the absence, during the last three years, of the usual Chinese authorities formerly employed to suppress it.

As His Excellency Sir Henry Pottinger may be expected at Canton soon, I have confined myself to the mere mention of circumstances, and refrain from any comment of a more detailed nature.
