inconsistent with the views of Lt. Govt as now explained to you, I leave it to
"you to decide whether or not it may be expedient to modify one or
two frankso far as may be necessary to make them conformable to the present intentions of H. My Govt.
Lt: Govt would not think it right absolutely to dispossess the present holders if they
desire continuing to occupy
their several portions on the
conditions on
which they are now
occupying
or to impose on
them,
or to calculate
the payments to be made
by them
for the future at a higher rate on account of any improvement
or additional values which the Land have received while in their possession.
On the contrary, Lt: Govt would be disposed to deal more liberally with such persons than with others, and
to afford them at least some compensation
for the disappointment of the expectations which they had been led to entertain when, although without
the sanction of H. My Govt the land was originally granted to them.
