Colonial Secretary's Department. Government House, Victoria, 18th March 1893.

With reference to Mr. Hillier's verbal communication to me on the 14th instant, regarding the appearance at your office of certain Policemen, bearing a Warrant from the Magistrate of the District of Sai Kung, and to that further communication of the 16th instant.

And also regarding the apprehension, under the said Warrant, of all but one of the parties charged in that Warrant, with the crimes of adultery, and murder; and with further reference, to the little information previous to the apprehension of these parties, of the principal defendant in the same case, and of his Petition; I am instructed by His Excellency the Governor to direct, that you will retain the persons apprehended, and the principal defendant aforesaid, in your own custody, until better evidence shall be adduced against them, or until, failing such evidence, their discharge shall be hereafter ordered.

I am also instructed by His Excellency to request, that you will immediately forward to the Magistrate of Sai Kung District the communication, of which a copy, and Translation in the Chinese Language, are herewith inclosed.
