HONGKONG SHARE QUOTATIONS.
HONGKONG, 20th August, 1909.-The market has been fairly active. but the volume of business transsoted has not been large. Rates in the early part of the week showed a slight incliua- tion to weakness, but at time of writing a firmer feeling prevails in most of our leading stocks. Exchange on London T/T 1/83, on Shanghai 743.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais bave changed hands in small lots at 1,030, but sellers have ruled the market and at time of writing it is probable that shares could be procured at a slightly lower rate. Nationals continue in

MARINE INSURANCE.-Unions continue on offer at 840 without inducing any further busi- Cantons have found buyers at 190, and Yangstzes are enquired for at 227, without bringing any shares on the market. North Chinas have buyers both here and in the North at 120, but shares are not available at that rate. At time of closing sales are reported at 122.
FIBE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs have been placed during the week at 350, but buyers now only offer 345, and the market is dead for the moment. Chinas have changed hands at 115, the market losing with sellers at that rate
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos after small sales at 31, were placed at 31, closing with probable sellers at the bigber rate. Indos have changed hands at $60, and $61 cash, and at Tls. 46, and 46 for December settlement in Shanghai Shell Transports have declined to 72. Other stocks under this heading remain unchanged and without business.
REFINERIES.—
-Chins Sugars in the early part of the week ruled weak with sellers at 37: towards the close, however, the market hardened and closes steady at 140 after sales at that rate. Luzons are enquired for at the enhanced rate of 24
MINING.-We have nothing to report under this heading with the exception of a rise in Langkats to 1,040, in the North. The rise is reported to be attributable to short sales.
DOCKS, WHARves and GodowNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks, have ruled fairly steady with sales at 61 and 60, closing with buyers at the latter rate. Kowloon Wharfs show an improvement and a fair number of shares have charged at bands 60, the market, however, closing with sellers. Shanghai Docks remain unchanged and without business. Hongkow Wharfs bave improved to 148 in North.

LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.-Hong- kong Lands have ruled firm, and with an unsatisfied demand the rate has improved to 105 with sales. In the early part of the week some sales were effected at 103. Hotels have also advanced to 75 (old) and 45 (new), but we have no sales to report. Shanghai Land show a further advance to 119.
