and not very valuable I wish to propose that part of the Commissariat Godowns and Quarters for native and Chinese commissariat Officers Followers now ... and nearly completed, be given over as a temporary measure for part of the stores that are for the use of the Troops intended to have been placed in them, remaining in their present store mat-
2nd In consequence of the late fire, when a considerable portion of the stores for Ordnance purposes were consumed, there is now provided for The Commissariat Officer of Ordnance more floor than he immediately requires, I have therefore to recommend that part of this Building also be given over as a temporary measure for the use of The Troops. The stores that may remain after survey upon them can be classified into Artillery and Engineer, and each Department take charge of their portions till a Storekeeper arrives.
At the Head Quarters of all Colonial Stations, Office of Artillery acts as Fire Master whose duties are those of the Laboratory and the Engineer Stores are in charge of an Engineer Serk of works which duty will have to be performed till one arrives from England by an assistant Engineer already appointed. Should there be any objection to this arrangement, Three months' supply of Stores can be issued to the Artillery and Engineer Department and the remainder removed to the Buildings at West Point under charge of the Commissariat Officer of Ordnance.
