Buildings already erected and in progress of erection by the Government, in order to cover under a temporary arrangement, doing duty at Hong Kong Barrack for the European Troops and likewise to provide accommodation for the Detachment of Royal Engineers and Miners and for the seven hundred men of the 48th Regiment who are on their way from England to join this Command.
121 Sappers temporary mat-barracks should this arrangement meet the wishes of the Major General Commanding the Commanding Royal Engineer will make out a plan in detail to effect this object and submit it for approval.
10. Major Generals
With reference to the possibility of obtaining increased Barrack accommodation for the Line, out of the Military Buildings that have been erected.
With reference to the accommodation of the Detachment of Royal Engineers and Miners they can be provided for without much expense in the Ordnance District by the Com- offices of my Commanding anxious to assist me in arrangements by assenting to give up for their use the wing of the Barracks then occupied by the Lascars providing for them and for the Madras native Artillery being coonfire by the Sappers.
I would beg to propose that with a view of reducing the store room required that an immediate return be made out of all the unserviceable and obsolete stores in charge of Commissariat Officer of Ordnance and of the Commissariat Officer, that they may be disposed of in the usual way by a Survey and auction.
And considering that Troops have a claim to cover!
