HONGKONG SHARE QUOTATIONS.
HONGKONG, 31st December, 1908.--Tle recent Christmas and the approaching N-w Year holidays have somewhat disturbed the market, causing slight tendency to weakness and a restriction of business. On the whole however rates have been fairly well maintained and a fair business transacted, the market closing steady at quotation in most cases. Exchange on London closes at 1/81 T.T. and on Shanghai at 751⁄2.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais have changed hands at 845, closing with sellers at that rate. Nationals remain unchanged at 51, and without business.
MARINE INSURANCES,—Unions have found buyers at 835 but close with sellers at that rafe. North Chinas have changed hands at 105 and close in further demand. Other stocks under this heading call for no remarks
FIRE INSURANCE", Hongkongs continue steady at 325, and small sales have been effected at that rate. Chinas have ruled rather weaker and have declined to 106 with sales.
SHIPPING. —With the exception of sales of Douglas' at 33, and of further buyers at that we have nothing to report under this heading.
REFINERIES.-China Sugars remains on offer at 112 without any business to report. Luzous have declined to 18, with sellers.
MINING.-Raubs have ruled weak, and with- out sales, the market at time of closing being 82 sellers,
DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS. - Hong- kong and Whampoas are still weak, and settle- ment shares have accentuated the weakness with- out leading to business, Shares could probably be obtained at the moment at something andor our quotation, Kowloon Wharfs coutinuing in demand have advanced to 45, with some few sales, and oks with further buyers at that rate. In the absence of advance of advices from Shanghai, owing to the holidays there, we leave last weeks quotations unchanged, but they should be looked on as purely nominsl.
LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.-With the exception of Kowloon Land, which have declined to 33 with s+l'ers, and Hotels which have improved to 84 with buyers, we have nothing to report under this heading.
COTION MILLS.—The latest written advice. from the North show that all Cotton stocks have improved. Ewos to 76, Internationals to 87, Lion Kang Mows to 73, and Soy Chees te 285. Hongkongs remain unchanged, with sell-rs at 10 and buyers at 9.
MISCELLANEOUS-China Providents have changed bands at the improved rate of 10 and more could be placed at that. Electrics, Union Water Boats, and Watsons are enquired for ut quotations but we have heard of no business in them. Ropes have found small buyersat 24, closing with sellers. Ioes have declined to 220 with out sales. We have nothing further. to. report under this heading.
