HONGKONG 30th October.-The demand for tonnage from the North continues, and suitable prompt steamers are scarce. From Saigon to Hongkong, 5 cent per picul the local rice market being again very weak; to Philippines, two handy sized boats fired, one at 23 cents, and the other at 17 cents; to Java, no demand. From New- chwang to Canton, a large business has been transacted at 75 centa por picul; to Amoy. 24 cents has been paid. Coal freights continue firm. From South Japan Coal port to Hongkong, $1.30 last; to Sir gapore, $1.60; Swatow, $1.90; Canton, $2.20. The following are the settlement:-

Messrs. J. P. Bisset & Co. of Shanghai in their Share Report for the week ending October 22nd, state:-There has been a good business done this week, but we find that generally speaking rates have somewhat declined since our last issue. The difficulties of finance for the December Settlement, followed by China New Year, bas caused early adjustments to be made and it is mainly on this account we think that there has been a decline in both Maat- schappij &c. in Langkats and Shanghai and Hongkow Wharves. Banks.-Hongkong and Shanghai Bank,-No business has been reported. Shares are wanted at $820. London to-day is-2,41. Insurance.-North China Insurance.-There are buyers at Tle. 83. Yangtare Insurance.-Sales have taken place at $187) Shipping.-There is no business report ed. Docks and Wharves.-Shanghai Dock and Engineering Co.-The price remains at Fls 82 nominal. Shanghai and Hongkew Wharves have sustained a further decline to Tis 153 for cash and Tls. 155 for December. Sugars. Perak Sugars. There are sellers at Tis. 90. Mining- There is no business reported. Lands.-Shang-picul. hai Land Investment Co.-A good business has been done at Tls. 116 for cash and Octuber. Some shares are DOW on the market at this price. Anglo-French Lands have been dealt in at Tis. 97). Miscellaneous. In the Miscel laneous division there is hardly any change from last week, rates are as appended below. Industrial. Ewo Cottons.- Business have been done at Tls. 65 for October and Tls. 67; and Tls. 68 for December closing slightly weaker. International Cottons. A Sale is reported at Tls. 61 for December. There are sellers of cash shares at Tls. 60, Shanghai Gas Co. Wa Sang - British steamer, 1,127 tons, New- Small lots have been placed at Tis. 119 during|chwang and Talienwan to Canton, 25,30,000 pienk, ; the week. Maatschappij, etc. in Langkats. — Since our last issue bith cash and forward ratex have steadily declined. The market opened with cash shares at Tls, 650, and December at Tls. 650, but at closing we quote the market at fls. 632 sellers, and for December at Tls. 665. | March share have been freely dealt in from Tls, 690, Tls. 685 and Tls. (MO. At the close these rates are not to be obtained. Shanghai Sumatra Tobacco.-The market has been quiet and there are sellers of cash shares at Tls. 120; Tls, 122Į for December has been reported. Shanghai Waterworks.-There are buyers at Th«, 400. Kalumpong Rubbers have been placed at Tis Esang-British steamer, 1 127 tons, Newchwang 61, and shares are offering. Shanghai Electric | and Talienwan tu Canton, 34,00) piruls, 25 cants Construction Co. are marked down this week to 28. 158. Loans and Debentures. — A fair a mount of business has been reported this week at considerably lower rates than have prevailed recently, which was only to be expected as soon as the tightness of money aross Shanghai Municipal siz per cent. debentures have changed hands at Tla, 101. Shangbai and Hongkew Wharf six per cent debentures at par. There is notthing reported in Shanghai Land Investment debentures, but a small lot of Shanghai Water- work debentures were placed at Tl. 103.
