At

have dropped still further and are quoted at Tls. 12 for cash and Tls. 74 for December. Persistent selling soon weakened the rates and the next business returned was at Tls. 2124 for December. Still more shares being thrown on the market after Tls. 206 had been done for cash, carried the cash rate to Tls. 202). A general collapse in for- ward rates then took place and sales were nade at Tls. 210, Tls. 2071 and Tls. 205 December, closing business has been done at Tls. 2021 De cember. More transactions took place for March at Tls. 217 and Tls. 216, but these rates were not maintained and at the close we quote the rate nominally at Tls, 210. Sugars.-No business re- ported. Mining.-No business reported. Lands. Shanghai Lands have been placed at Tls. 101. Industrial.-Cotton Shares. There is na business reported this week. Shanghai Gas Shares have been placed at Tls. 107, and there are buyers at this figure. China Flour Mills Share have changed hands at Tis 50. Shanghai Ices. Sales have been made at Tls. 12. Maatschappij, etc.. in Langkats. We have to record a sensational and very rapid collapse in this stock during the week. The market opened with a sale for December at Tls. 340, and on the 11th we find shares changed hands at Tls. 325 cash, Tls. 330 October, and Tls. 335 December. A certain weakness set in, which at the end of last week brought the rates down to Tls. 325 cash, and Tls. 330 December. On the 14th cash shares became unsaleable at prevailing rates and the market dropped to Tls, 325 for Decoinber and Tls. 927 for January. On the 13th, although rates were nominally Tls. 320 for December, a great rush of shares on the market were sold without intermediate bargaining at Tls. 300 for cash and Tls. 307 anl Tl, 300 for December. Yesterday this shock was further accentuated and the rate tumbled for cash to Tls. 285 and sales for December at Tls. 295 and T1-, 290. We are glad to report that a sharp reaction then set in and at closing rates are Tls. 303 for cash Tls, 310 for De- cember. Shanghai Sumatras. There are sellers at Tls. 115. kalumpong Rubbers have sellers at Tls. 56. Miscellaneous.-Business has been of a very trifling character, and rates at closing are as appended below. Loans and Debentures.-We hear of nothing being done.

HONGKONG,

25th October, 1907.-The market has remained fairly steady with a fair business in the first part, but a slackening off towards the latter part of the week. Rates remain without any important change, and the market closes steady. Exchange on London T/T 2/04, on Shanghai 74.

Shanghai Docks, after falling to 72 in Shanghai, close firmer at 74. Hongkow Wharves have declined in Shanghai to 195, chiefly owing, we understand, to weak specu- lative Chinese holders in Shanghai.

AND

COTTON MILLS.-Ewos have fallen to 56 in Shanghai. Other cottons remaining unchanged.
