Mr. P. Eduljee in his report, dated Hong- kong, 5th April, states:-The enquiry alluded to in our last report has developed into a strong demand, and during the interval a large quantity of yarn changed hands As nuted at futually checked the slight tendency to the incipient Buyers, after holding off for a considerable time, seem to have accepted the situation, but stand strenuously against any advance in price; im- porters on the other hand appear willing sellers, and are meeting the market freely. No in- provement, however, is noticalde in values, but on the other hand no further devline has taken place, although dealers throughout the interval -have been hearing the market with persistent energy. The salient feature of the fortnight has been the marked improvement in the demand for No. 20s. after its depression for so many months past, the bulk of the settlements being made up of this count, No. 10s, taking second place With small receipts and large offtakes our stocks I show, a
further satisfactory decrease on last jestimate. flombay is reported quiet, where in view of the congested condition of the China markets spinners are considering the advisability of adopting short time, and some such joint action is urgently needed in the general interests of the trade. Sales of the interval aggregate 8.246 hales, arrivals amunt to 2.529, unsold stock estimated at 70,000, and sold but uncleared yarn at 30,000 hales. Local Manufacture:- Sales of 250 hales, No. 10s and 128 at 183 and 885 respectively have transpired.
